To Moray House for a lecture by Mike Russell, the SNP’s education man. The first response to his call for earlier vocational education came from Tino Ferri of the National Asociation of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers and aspiring Tory candidate in deepest Lanarkshire.

Back in 1972, Ferri recalled, disaffected teenagers were dispatched to the local techy three days a week. “It’s a great idea and we should look at it,” he concluded.

A flummoxed Russell retorted: “The last trade unionist who became a Tory politician was Norman Tebbit.”

Right-wing, bald. Could they be related?
