Telling a story

24th October 2008, 1:00am

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival starts today and will run throughout the weekend in Edinburgh. This year’s theme is “Northlands and Sagalands”, and 20 guest storytellers, artists and speakers will come from Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and the Western Isles. They will take part in performances, workshops, discussions and school events. The festival is now linked into a European network of storytellers through FEST, the Federation for European Storytelling which was set up last year. Nineteen member nations have joined the network to share ideas and opportunities for collaborative working.
