MOST Londoners do it with ease but other adults in Britain are filled with terror at the mere thought. What could this grisly act be? Making a speech at a wedding or a presentation, according to a survey by the Association of Colleges.

It found that 54 per cent of the population are unhappy with their communication skills.

Seven out of 10 Londoners are confident speaking in front of others but six out of 10 people in the North-east and West Midlands would be unhappy if asked to do a presentation.

The BBC is launching a new series, Toolkit to Communication, encouraging people to improve communication skills through short courses at FE colleges. David Gibson, AoC chief executive, said: “Many people lack the confidence to stand up and talk in public but it is an easy problem to solve.”
