“COLLEGIAL development” sounds very fine, but after all these years of increased workload and enforced competition between schools, it is hard to see how Carol Adams, chief executive officer of the General Teaching Council for England, (“Blueprint to develop the profession”, TES, May 24) can regard it as a practicable means of professional development.
The existing five Baker days are held in great contempt. The prospect of another five training days will not attract new recruits or improve morale - but it does match the image of a government which apparently wants to be tough on teachers and tough on the causes of teachers.
The GTC as a government poodle? Theory proven, I think.
