Independent schools are planning to abandon the national curriculum so they can return to teaching traditional subjects.
Schools have had enough of “fashionable” lessons on climate change and obesity. Instead they want to focus on the basics - spelling and key dates in history.
The vast majority of independent schools have given their backing to a new curriculum for three to 14-year-olds, which they will design over the next year.
Michael Spinney, chairman of the Independent Association of Prep Schools, said: “We are living in an era where teaching and learning are sacrificed in favour of fashionable causes, often with disastrous effects upon standards of learning.”
