Tricks of exam

I have just witnessed the first cohort of Year 6 children taking the much-vaunted national tests for end of key stage 2 and key stage 1.

I can only conclude that those charged with the setting of the papers deliberately chose to use language that might trick children into making mistakes.

I had thought the object of the testing was to find out what children knew, not how they could be tricked into making errors.
