Reforms to improve child protection in local authorities have created more confusion, according to a report by the Audit Commission. The Government’s spending watchdog criticised children’s trusts, partnerships involving representatives from education, health and other children’s services, saying there was little evidence they had improved support for children.
“Trusts get in the way,” it said. “A third of directors of children’s services say the purpose of the trusts is unclear and the uncertainty is hampering their efforts to deliver better services.”
