Universities are to send out more than 400,000 leaflets this week enticing sixth formers to apply for degree courses, following fears that applications for entry next autumn have fallen by almost 10 per cent. The leaflets are being sent out by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals and the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service to allay prospective students' concerns about the introduction of tuition fees.
