Drug awareness
As half-term approaches and pupils look forward to parties, it is easy for them to be tempted by drugs. Help them to understand the law and the effects of illegal substances with these resources.
Start with a drugs awareness quiz to find out what pupils already know. Then get them to research different drugs. What are their street names? What effects do they have? What is the law on possession?
Discuss how celebrities and peers influence pupils’ decisions on drug-taking with a PowerPoint about the power of influence. Finish the lesson with a match-up activity to see how much pupils have learned.
Give them an information booklet on drug guidelines to read at home. It contains first aid tips on how to help a friend who has taken drugs and the details of advice lines to contact should they need to.
