Last week, Simon Horobin, a professor of English at Magdalen College, Oxford, caused an outcry at the Hay Festival of literature and the arts when he argued that the spellings of “they’re”, “there” and “their” could be standardised. “Is the apostrophe so crucial to the preservation of our society?” he asked the audience.

I’m fed up wconstant dumbing down just bc something might be a little bit tricky and needs concentration amp; understanding.
