Two new primary literacy booklets

19th May 2000, 1:00am
Two new booklets offer advice for primary teachers. Non-fiction in the Literacy Hour recognises the importance of information books for recreation as well as research. It provides advice on how to help children explore the conventions of factual texts and how to investigate the cliches of newspapers and the persuasive hyperbole of cereal packets. Cliff Moon’s Individualised Reading is an invaluable guide to the readability of hundreds of eries of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books. By grading them into 13 levels, it brings organisation to the service of imaginative freedom.
