Clear and growing concern about curriculum overload across all sectors was a major conference theme, Ronnie Smith, the Educational Institute of Scotland’s general secretary, warned.
The tenor of the boycott call on Higher Still was to invite the Government to sharpen up its act, Mr Smith said. There was “a chasm of perception” between the Inspectorate and the classroom about preparations.
Teachers were dissatisfied with the recent 3 per cent pay deal and constant carping at the profession. Mr Smith accepted considerable new money had gone into education since Labour’s election but the benefits had not washed through to the classroom.
FE was “in crisis” and a fourth significant concern.
