Warning on pay scale effects

THE new pay scale for inner London teachers could create knock-on problems for councils in the rest of the South-east, a think tank has warned. Income Data Services cites the experience of neighbouring police forces when Metropolitan Police officers were granted a London living allowance of pound;6,000. Despite an extra pound;2,000 for officers in Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and the Thames Valley, chief constables said they were losing out to the Met in staff recruitment and retention, according to IDS.
