JUDITH Mullen, leaving England’s largest Fresh Start school after three years for a senior role at the British Council, says “hero heads” are a thing of the past. She believes that successful leadership teams are now seen as the key to school success. New College, Leicester, which has 1,640 pupils, was formed from three closing schools in 1999 with Mrs Mullen as its first principal. Her replacement, to be paid pound;68,000 to pound;78,000, is now being sought. Her new post as special adviser in international leadership will see her advise on best practice around the world.
