Why all this negativity?

25th March 2005, 12:00am
As a participant at the recent National College for School Leadership conference in Birmingham, I was surprised at the brevity and negativity of your article about it (TES, March 11).

It did not do justice to an event that brought together an impressive line-up of education experts and policy-makers. It was wide-ranging, informative and thought-provoking.

I cannot speak personally about the National Professional Qualification for Headship, which was criticised in the piece. But I feel fortunate that my time in school leadership has coincided with the advent of the college. Its programmes have been relevant, supportive, and provided an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues.

I wish the NCSL’s new chief executive, Steve Munby, success in his efforts to get more school leaders to engage with the college.
