Why should inspectors have an MOT?

There is much to criticise about Ofsted, but Geoff Barton’s populist piece adds nothing new. If inspectors should have “some kind of MOT certificate to reassure us that ... they themselves can teach”, shouldn’t the same apply to heads who monitor their staff’s teaching, since most of them also “fled the classroom before the latest whims and fads solidified into orthodoxy”?
