Wise judge jails mother of truants

31st May 2002, 1:00am
I WOULD like to offer my congratulations to the Oxfordshire magistrates who recently jailed a mother for not sending her daughters to school. Almost at a stroke they have solved my attendance problems. The day following the news, the pupils at this school who have a poor attendance record were in class and have not been absent since. The jailing has sent a welcome shudder round the district.

I have yet to meet a teacher or parent who disagrees with the magistrates.
