In response to Rhona Hunt’s letter (TESS, April 6) wondering why she has been kept waiting months to be used for supply teaching, I may have the answer.
Teachers who have been working in Scottish schools and have taken early retirement on the grounds of ill health cannot earn money teaching while receiving a pension.
I imagne that the terms of the English pension are different; but the Scottish education authorities, being more familiar with the Scottish pension system, might take a while to clarify matters. You can, however, do as much voluntary ie unpaid teaching as you wish for bodies like community education.
