Have you completed an apprenticeship? Or are you currently undertaking one?

If you can place a tick next to either of these questions, it’s your lucky day. You’re being given the opportunity to impart your wisdom and inspire the next generation of apprentices.

Where has this opportunity to boast about your accomplishments and earn yourself some brownie points at work come from? Well, you can post your letters of thanks to first minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Kicking off Scottish Apprenticeship Week with a bang, she announced the launch of the Scottish Apprenticeship Network. It aims to connect schools with apprentices across the country. These apprentices will become “ambassadors” for the network and every school in the country will be linked with one.

Ms Sturgeon said: “Creating this network of apprentices, who can share their experiences with others, will help inspire the next generation. We know that work-based learning delivers for individuals, employers and the Scottish economy.”

The network will be run by Skills Development Scotland (SDS), who pledged that recruitment will be inclusive, with members from across the whole of Scotland, different sectors, industries and disciplines.

As well as sharing the benefits of foundation, modern and graduate apprenticeships with school pupils, the ambassadors will also share their stories with employers, parents and teachers.

Katie Hutton, SDS director of national training programmes, said: “We know that the best people to showcase the benefits of apprenticeships are successful apprentices.

“Through the network, apprentices will have a unique opportunity to talk directly to school pupils who are making their career choices and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.”
