If someone says… “What’s all this fuss about energy drinks?”

You say… “For the past year or so, there have been rising concerns about the effects of energy drinks. A campaign by Jamie Oliver, supported by teachers, entitled #NotForChildren, called for a ban on under-16s buying them.”

If someone says... “Is drinking a Red Bull or two really that bad?”

You say... “Some drinks have up to 80mg of caffeine per 250ml - and, according to one head, kids are drinking these on the way to school.”

If someone says... “What’s the government doing?”

You say... “It launched a consultation on a possible ban for under-16s, and a report by the Commons Science and Technology Select Committee was published this week.”

If someone says... “What did the report say?”

You say... “Well, it found that there’s not enough scientific evidence to justify the ban, but teachers’ views on the effects on pupils could provide a basis for a new law. Watch this space.”
