This week, for half-term (and yes, we know not all of you are on half-term, please stop tweeting us about that), we’ve been asking people to give us their top tip for other teachers looking for ways to improve their own wellbeing. Using the hashtag #SmileUntilChristmas,
we were inundated with replies. Here are some of our favourites:
Try and do one thing a day that’s for you and not your career.
@Phosie
If you get sick, actually stay off until you’re better - no matter what assessments/nativity/anything else is going on in the classroom. Accumulated years of not looking after yourself eventually take their toll. It’s not worth it.

Be self-aware. Notice when your thinking is becoming really anxious and you’re looking for the negative in everything. Just know these are signs you need to step back, breathe, and talk to a colleague or line manager.
@dynamicdeps
Make sure you keep up your interests. Keep going for a run. Play sport at the weekend. Knit a scarf. Whatever you do in the holidays, make time for it in term time.
@tyke2474
Be brave enough to say no. If you think something is unreasonable, stand up for yourself.
