The 2022 International Baccalaureate results have been published.

International Baccalaureate students in the UK have outperformed the global average, new results published tonight reveal.

The average overall diploma mark awarded per student was 36.35, compared with a global figure of 31.98.

This year, the IB had said that it expected schools offering the qualification to make all reasonable efforts to run examinations.

However it also developed a process of awarding grades without examinations as a contingency measure in the event that Covid prevented them going ahead in some schools.

The new figures for 2022 show that there were 5,250 IB candidates at 109 schools across the UK who will be receiving results.

There were 173,878 candidates across the world.

The IB Diploma Programme, a two-year course of study, sees candidates achieve between a grade 7 and a 1 per subject, with the higher number being a better grade.

All IB students study six subjects from different academic areas, of which three are studied at higher level and three at standard level.

The average subject grade in the UK was 5.75, compared with 5.12 internationally.

And 97.5 per cent of IB students in the UK passed, compared with 85.6 per cent across the world.

The figures also show that 1,252 of the 12,614 students who achieved more than 40 points across the world were based in the UK.

Last year, the IB was awarded through a dual route for grading, with schools in some countries taking exams while others awarded grades through teacher assessment.

That year, the average score for the International Baccalaureate Diploma improved on the previous year.

The average score for the May 2021 session was 33.02 points, up from 31.34 in May 2020.

The diploma pass rate has also risen to 88.96 per cent, up from 85.18 per cent in 2020.
