* A 15-year-old boy has been banned from three Leicester schools under one of the first anti-social behaviour orders used by an education authority, writes Roger Bushby.

Shay McManus has been told to stay away from Fullhurst community college, Imperial Avenue infant school and Westcotes Park primary.

He was previously expelled from Fullhurst and council officials have used the order to stop him disrupting pupils and staff at the school.

Neil Canham, leader of the local ASBO unit, said the order was needed to allow Fullhurst pupils and staff to go about their normal school business.

The order against the teenager runs until October 12, when magistrates will decide whether it should be made permanent.

He has also been barred from a dozen streets near the schools and banned from a string of activities, including taking drugs in public and threatening behaviour.

A local education authority spokeswoman said the council had never used such powers to prevent a former pupil returning to his school. “This sends out a clear message to the disruptive minority,” she said.
