Mr Jack Malloch, who was dismissed by Aberdeen Corporation in 1969 for refusing to register with the General Teaching Council, resumed teaching last week at the opening of the new school session in Aberdeen. In 1969 he was a teacher at the old Aberdeen Academy, which last year moved to Hazlehead.

The House of Lords this summer supported Mr Malloch in his claim that he should have been given a hearing by the education authority before he was dismissed. When the staffing sub-committee of Aberdeen education committee meet next Wednesday they will be required to consider Mr Malloch’s position, if he has not by then registered with the GTC.

Two teachers dismissed in 1969 by Glasgow Corporation for failure to register with the GTC have been told by Glasgow’s town clerk that their dismissals were valid.
