Even in these youth-worshipping days, the appointment of Dr Tom Bone as principal of the largest college of education in Britain - some say in Europe - is startling enough to deserve comment. But at 37 Tom Bone is a creature almost unique in the Scottish educational scene, a college of education lecturer who has won the respect of both academics and classroom teachers. Even students are prepared to admit that he practises what he preaches.
