STIRLING, which is implementing a similar strategy to East Renfrewshire, has confirmed wide disparities in individual teacher judgments.

Pupils who took the Edinburgh Reading Test and had the same score could be placed at any one of three 5-14 levels. Their true abilities were misjudged.

Margaret Doran, head of schools’ services, urged caution but believed there were concerns about the validity and reliability of 5-14 attainment levels. Testing will be repeated in November.
