BRITAIN’S first black female MP, Diane Abbott, this week accused teachers of holding attitudes unhelpful to African-Caribbean children. The Labour MP for Hackney and Stoke Newington made the attack at a National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers conference.Eamonn O’Kane, general secretary of NASUWT, agreed with her comments but did not feel that schools were institutionally racist.
