THE selective presentation of data from secondary performance tables is misleading.

St Clare’s had an unauthorised absence record of 10.9 per cent, which sounds appalling without the information that it relates to a single student - the only day student of compulsory school age.

Absence data is given without reference to the population to which it applies. More misleadingly, you do include the total number of students of all ages in a nearby column, suggesting that the absence rates relate to this total. This is tantamount to misrepresentation.
