First there was tie-dye, then batik, now Berol brings us eye-popping fabric paints called Fab Effects. These come in a range of 30 colours: 12 brights, 12 pearlescent and six fluorescent for more radical designs.
The paints come in 250ml bottles and are ready to use. They can be applied directly on to man-made or natural fabrics and once they have dried, can be fixed by giving the painted material the once-over with a domestic iron.
A kit of 12 bottles in the brights range costs pound;34, or pound;3.04 for one bottle; a pack of the 12 pearlescent paints is pound;43.50 (pound;3.76 singly); and a pack of the fluorescent paints, which are not available individually, costs pound;21.75 (all exclude VAT).
If you need a bit of help getting started, or are merely stuck for ideas, Berol is running a series of art workshops for primary and secondary school teachers. Taking place in March, June and October, these practical activity sessions are backed by the National Society for Education in Art and Design. They will give teachers the chance to work with practising artists in a variety of disciplines (sculpture, textiles, painting, illustration and printmaking), to learn skills and to swop ideas for class work. The workshops cost pound;60for society members and pound;80for others.
