Academics' pay 'scandal'

Pay levels for academics were at an 18-year-low and "a national scandal", Penny Holloway, president of the Association of University Teachers, told members of the association in London yesterday. In the past three years, inflation had risen by 9.2. per cent and graduate starting salaries by 15 per cent, but university and college pay had gone up by only 8.7 per cent, she said.
