Plans to open a third academy by The Vardy Foundation have been approved by Charles Clarke, the Education Secretary. Construction of the pound;20 million Trinity academy is due to begin in April. It will replace the Thorne grammar near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and is expected to open in September 2005. The foundation, whose chairman is the multi-millionaire Christian businessman Sir Peter Vardy, is behind Emmanuel college, Gateshead, and The King’s academy, Middlesbrough.
