Action plan goes to HMI

THE services committee considered an action plan prepared by officials to address concerns highlighted in a recent damning HMI report on Shetland.

Inspectors said that there was a need for "joined-up working" between different departments and outside agencies, an urgent improvement in communication between officials, heads and parents, better quality assessment of schools, more control of budgets, better management and better value for money.

A full response went to HMI this week, within the eight-week deadline, although the action plan still has to be approved by the full islands council.
