Make a list of wizards in story books. Ask children to draw or describe a typical magician. Talk about stereotypes. Look at Elizabethan portraits. What differences do children notice between the dress of the younger courtiers and the older advisers to the Queen.

Draw up a timetable for the pupils of Hogwarts school and compare it with the subjects studied by Tudor scientists. Tell the story of John Dee. Link it with fictional stories about magicians, such as Merlin, to demonstrate the difference between fact and fiction.
