Adam Hyland from Poole in Dorset, who featured on our cover three weeks ago, came first in the sports category of the Whitbread Young Achievers Awards at the finals in London. Adam, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was recognised for his work in championing opportunities in football for young disabled people and for establishing, managing and coaching a squad when he was a pupil at Victoria School. There are three squads now and Adam has also founded the Poole Physically Challenged Football Team for Young People. Louise Ng won the environment category, having campaigned for solar panels to be installed at her school, King Alfred in the London borough of Barnet. James Hurrell won the community award for establishing Tolerance in Diversity, a London-based anti-racism charity that is now run by a group of 30 youngsters with a budget of pound;60,000-plus.
