* A newly-qualified teacher who failed her induction year after consistently receiving poor marks during class observations has appealed to the General Teaching Council for England against the decision.

Adekemi Olubodun, formerly of The McEntee school, Waltham Forest, London, told last week’s hearing in Birmingham her failure was due to her employers not providing sufficient support. She also said a conspiracy against her within the school prevented her from passing.

The school denies her accusations. Out of 13 class observations in the 200304 academic year, carried out by five different members of staff, Ms Olubodun received only two satisfactory ratings.

The GTC’s induction appeal committee will rule on whether to uphold her appeal at a later date.
