THAILAND: Two-thirds of parents are paying bribes to secure places in kindergartens, schools and universities.

A survey of 5,671 parents nationwide by the Rajabhat Institute in Bangkok found that more than half of the bribes were cash gifts of more than 4,000 Baht (pound;60). Bribes also take the form of donations, gifts and bonuses to secure exam results once children are at school. Eighty-four per cent had to borrow the money, one-third of them from moneylenders.
