LOCAL authorities with the worst adoption records have been named and shamed by the Government during National Adoption Week.

The move was attacked by the British Agencies for Adoption and Fostering which said it could discourage potential adoptive parents from comig forward and would hinder social service staff recruitment. The named authorities are: Barnet, Lambeth, Peterborough, Northamptonshire, Coventry, Slough, Torbay and Newham.

Reports compiled by Jon Slater, with the help of the National Children’s Bureau.
