Parents Online week, an initiative to encourage parents to see the Internet as a valuable educational tool, will be held from September 30 to October 4 this year. Since the initiative began in 2000 many schools have held special events by opening their ICT rooms to parents. Cathy Ashton, minister for early years and school standards, has told schools in a letter: "For many parents, even those who use computers at work, the educational aspects of the Web are still a mystery."
