The Association of Education Advisers in Scotland (AEAS) has retained solicitors Harper MacLeod to represent them at an employment tribunal. The association is arguing that advisers’ contracts have been breached as a result of management’s failure to link their salary increases with those of teachers, as has always happened in previous years.
The advisers want an interim 10 per cent rise now, leading to the full 23 per cent over three years. Jack McConnell, Education Minister, told them he was keen to see the position clarified by the end of June.
Roderick MacKenzie, the association’s president, said: “The decision to proceed to a tribunal has been taken with sadness and a sense of disappointment. We still hope that sense can prevail and that the matter can be resolved by discussion.”
Music instructors, the other group affected along with psychologists, won an interim 10 per cent award and an inquiry into their claims on condition they did not go to a tribunal.
