Children in the 1990s are the most inactive compared with all previous generations, according to new research.

A survey by Exeter University showed that 36 per cent of girls aged 5-11 and more than half of boys of the same age are not taking the equivalent of a brisk 10-minute walk each week. Boys tend to remain more active throughout their early years, while girls’ activity levels decline as early as five.
