The age of online exams is upon us

Here at the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), we understand the importance of using technology to deliver high-stakes exams (“Pen and paper exams ‘short-change’ students”, 25 October). Students want to be able to sit exams when they are ready and to get their results almost immediately, and the most effective way to achieve that is online. By the end of 2013, AAT will be delivering all our exams online; more than 500,000 computer-based assessments were taken during 2011-12. Even in developing countries such as Swaziland, AAT has worked with our technology partners to make sure that the instability of infrastructure is not an impediment to online assessment.
