MORE than 3,300 people in Britain were diagnosed with HIV last year, the highest number since the condition was discovered 20 years ago, figures from the Public Health Laboratory Service have shown.
Doctors are concerned that the safe sex message is being ignored or frgotten by young people. The perception is that HIV is no longer a serious disease, said Barry Evans, head of the HIV unit at the service. “HIV is more treatable but it is still an incurable infection and we don’t know when resistance to the drugs will kick in.”
