She said care had also to be taken to provide development for FE staff who had been used to teaching over-16s and higher education courses. “But there are a lot of opportunities such as giving young people self-confidence and belief, increased motivation, increased opportunities and vocational skills,” Ms Davie pointed out. There was a continuing high demand for work courses - 500 applications from 14-16s this year for 159 places.
