Security cameras and school gates are ways to make sure pupils remain in school and behave well. But when pupils are missing from class - there is not much you can do. However, that may soon be a thing of the past.
Parents and teachers who worry what pupils are up to during school hours will now be able to buy a new GPS card that can be fitted in school bags or clothing - tracking every step they take.
This is what Rachel Wilder, 53, is about to do when keeping an eye on her 19-year-old son, who will carry a GPS card when he travels the world on his gap year.
“It is fantastic to be able to keep an eye on Harry and track his journey,” she told the Daily Telegraph. “I can tell which street he is in so I can make sure he doesn’t wander into any dangerous areas.”
The system, which co-ordinates readings from four satellites, would allow you to spot the pupil within 15ft of their location - if they go somewhere they shouldn’t it will send a text message. The card can be rented or bought.
