A PE teacher has become the oldest British woman to climb Mount Everest. Amanda Richmond, 54, fought through giant snow plumes and electrical storms to reach the summit. Ms Richmond, from Stowupland High School near Stowmarket in Suffolk, was joined by Neil Taylor, a biology teacher from the same school, who - despite suffering from pneumonia - climbed to 8,100m, 750m below the summit, before turning back. “He knew that if he carried on he would not return,” Ms Richmond told the ‘Ipswich Evening Star’.
