The Audit Commission survey on the support provided to schools over the past year is now available in most authorities in England and Wales.

Unfortunately, here in Cheshire, the education authority is preventing us from participating. This year the survey invites schools to rate their LEA on areas including budget advice and special educational needs, both of which are major issues for Cheshire schools.

The director of education in Warrington said in his 2004 summer term report to all Warrington schools: “May I take this opportunity once again to encourage schools to use the survey to inform us of their views of the LEA and its services. We take your views very seriously.” I believe that by not allowing the schools in Cheshire to participate in this survey, our LEA is being arrogant, complacent and apprehensive of our responses.
