The quotes from John Callaghan and Mark White about their roles “educating” young people (“Confrontation on the waterfront”, TES, February 3) were misleading. I know of no materials published by any animal rightsanimal welfare group, that put a balanced view about animals and the ways in which society uses them.

Some balanced materials do exist, for example those produced by the Association for Science Education. These present factual information and a range of view points and then challenge young people to make up their own minds.
