YOUR report (TES, April 23) that there has been “antagonism and unpleasantness” between the head of Harrogate grammar school and the local education authority is absolutely wrong.

The case for building improvements was agreed long before the GM ballot. The work was programmed promptly when the capital approval was received.

The other difficulties to which Kevin McAleese refers have been at school level and not with the LEA.

Cynthia Welbourn

Director of education
