The criticism you report of schools with specialism in science presents a skewed picture of reality (“One-third of science schools fail to field a single GCSE physics candidate”, June 26). Science colleges enter twice the number of students for physics, chemistry and biology respectively, when compared with the national average. Students in science colleges also gain better results in science. Significantly, specialist science schools have helped reverse a decline in take-up of physics and chemistry at A-level and university.
