JUNE is not just a month for charity - it will also feature architects.

From June 20 to 29, children will be encouraged to work with architects to design and make their own structures. In Dallingon school in east London, for example, under-11s will visit an architects’ studio to design a bridge which will later be assembled in their playground using recycled materials.

A website offers teachers ideas for playground activities such as making a model construction like the Eden Project or the Geodesic Dome out of newspaper and masking tape. One Year 5 pupil said: “It was good to work in a team and make something out of things you normally throw away - it’s like we made something out of nothing.”

The website also offers children ideas for games and puzzles.
